5 differences between dog and cat: Being like a dog and a cat often means that we are too different to get along. Yet, many dogs and cats can be seen sharing the same household. And luckily, because there is nothing cuter than seeing a house dog and cat get along. Do you know what are the differences between the dog and the cat? Here they are :
1- Domestication
Dogs and cats weren't domesticated at the same time. And although domestication is still debated in the dates, it is widely believed that the dog was domesticated before the cat.
Indeed, the dog would have been domesticated at least 15,000 years ago. Whereas, the cat would have been domesticated 10,000 years ago according to the latest discoveries.
This difference explains in part why we have received ideas such as “a cat does not stand up” because it is more difficult to find something to motivate a cat in order to cooperate.
2- Living hours
The dog will live at your own pace. At any time, he will be ready to accompany you in your activities. To the cat it looks a little different. Indeed, even if the cat is not an entirely nocturnal animal, many like to go out after dark. The cat loves the serenity that accompanies the night. But above all, it is at night that these favorite preys are activated (eg rodents).
3- Life expectancy
We know, unlike the dog, the cat has 9 lives !! This legend has several origins (Hindu, Egyptian, etc.). But for me, it underlines the fact that the cat very often lives longer than the dog.
Science gives an average of 15 years for the dog. Whereas, for the cat, she estimates that on average it can live at least twenty years. Is it for this reason that the cat is sometimes associated with the image of a sage? Because he would live longer and therefore have accumulated more wisdom? Maybe, but not mine. Personally my cat is a demon (But I love him !!)
4- Behavior and body language
Being two different species, the cat and the dog have behaviors that are sometimes similar, but do not mean the same thing.
We can give as an example the movement of the tail. To give as an example a generality which does not take into account any context (individual, environment, etc.), a dog that flaps its tail is often happy. The cat will be rather irritated.
In addition, the dog will easily turn to the human and might want to accompany you everywhere. To have a good relationship with your dog, you have to show a white paw. If your cat is scared, it's a safe bet that he will go into hiding before coming towards you.
It is often said that our dog sees us as a god, while the cat thinks he is god. A humorous image that generally underlines the difference between the two species.
Be careful, however, because a cat has the same capacity as a dog to love his human. Pay attention to received ideas, they do not describe reality and do not take into account the individual and his personality.
5- Education
Very often we think that a dog is educating itself but not a cat. There is nothing more false. On the other hand, the difference is that it is much more difficult to find a reinforcer and motivation in the cat.
In addition, you cannot take a cat to a feline club for group lessons. I think it would be very complicated. If you don't know how to train your dog, you can call on our Canidelite Canine Center in Toulouse, Bordeaux, Paris and Perpignan.
